I Wanted to make a welcome video for the YouTube channel to explain what Trial Transition Advance was, is, and what it’s evolving into. Also it was a way to gain some experience in front of the camera and shake off some nerves lol!
Trial Transition Advance started off as an album title for the first Instrumental project I released back in 2017. You can listen to it here or below. I wrote 12 compositions (songs) and recorded them with some of my close friends. This project started in 2006 and took me til 2017 to complete, just working on it little by little and eventually buckling down and finishing it.
The name came from the idea of what we go through in this life.
Trial: a test of the performance, qualities, or suitability of someone or something.
Transition: the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another.
Advance: move forward, typically in a purposeful way.
So it all started off with music and then grew into photography. Ever since moving to Lake Waccamaw in 2017 I would go on walks, run, or ride a bike almost every day. When I would go I would take either my Sony point and shoot camera with me or just my smart phone to take pictures. Over the years I had collected hundreds of photos and compiled them into a photo book that I published on Amazon. There are currently 2 books for sale. Lake Waccamaw: Monochrome: A Collection Of Photos By Matt Dudley And Lake Waccamaw: Wildlife: A Collection Of Photos By Matt Dudley. These were released as an extension of the Trial Transition Advance name.
After releasing the books I started an Instagram page for the photography aspect of it along with the field recordings and music @trialtransitionadvance. Every so often I would buy a new camera and new lenses and shoot with a specific setup each week on my morning walks at the lake. That slowly turned into me making handmade items for sale with the logo. I bought a laser engraver and made custom wooden coasters in the winter of 2022. Then last year I got into making leather pocket knife slips using the logo on them.
The name has made many transitions as to what Trial Transition Advance is throughout the years. The one thing that is a constant is that it is an extension of me. It’s my creative side. My want and need to make art, my personality, it’s who I am and it’s who I am becoming. I want this blog and YouTube channel to showcase journaling, adventures and camping, the gear I use, insight and wisdom, mentorship, physical and mental health, art, and music. I am excited to create again and I am looking forward to sharing it with you. I hope in the process it helps me grow as a human being and that in turn helps other people. My friend/mentor Don Peacock was a great influence in my life. He helped so many people throughout his lifetime and I’d like to continue carrying the torch for him.
Thank you for taking the time to read my posts and watch my videos. Here’s to many more.
